THE EXPRESSIVE DUTCH PAINTER

I work in an expressive style. I like to paint like I am drawing. Directly on the canvas. A Dutch Fine Art Jury describes my work as ‘a lust for the eye and has something to do with Jean Dubuffet’. I start with acryl painting and I am finishing with oil-painting. I work with new media as well. My personal preferences? Old masters like Frans Hals, the younger ones like Vincent van Gogh and the expressionists in general.

Growing up in Amsterdam resulted in my renewed vision and focus on painting with Amsterdam as subject.

Studied at the Arnhem Academy for the Visual Arts (HKA) painting, video and photography from 1979 and graduated in 1984. Years later I studied again at the HKA with a focus on art education and design.

Over the years I have developed my own style, influenced by all kinds of styles of modern painting. I regularly go for a walk in Amsterdam and take snapshots and use that as basic material and edit them with graphic programs for my paintings. I also work incidentally on commission with architecture as a starting point.

Furthermore, I have a great interest in electronics especially focused on 3D equipment, which is built by myself. This includes printers and cutters for all kinds of materials.  I want to make it possible to register, edit and print images with a 3D sensor.

I regularly lend my work and participate in exhibitions in public spaces such as CODA and Archipel.

Opgroeien in Amsterdam resulteerde in mijn hernieuwde visie en focus op de schilderkunst met voornamelijk Amsterdam als onderwerp.

Ik studeerde aan de Arnhemse Academie voor de Beeldende Kunst (HKA) schilderen, video en fotografie vanaf 1979 en slaagde in 1984. Jaren later studeerde ik opnieuw bij de HKA met als richting kunstonderwijs en ontwerp.

In de loop der jaren heb ik een eigen stijl ontwikkeld, onder invloed en verwerking van allerlei stijlen van de moderne schilderkunst. Regelmatig ga ik wandelen in Amsterdam en neem snapshots en gebruik dat als basismateriaal en bewerk ze met grafische programma’s voor mijn schilderijen. Ook werk ik incidenteel in opdracht met architectuur als uitgangspunt.

Verder heb ik grote belangstelling voor electronica speciaal gericht op 3D apparatuur, dat door mijzelf wordt gebouwd. Te denken valt aan printers, en cutters voor allerhande materialen. Zelf wil ik het mogelijk maken met een 3D sensor beelden te registreren, bewerken en te printen

Regelmatig leen ik mijn werk uit en doe mee aan tentoonstellingen in openbare ruimtes zoals CODA en Archipel.
